SFC publish report on Scottish Participation in FE and HE
19 November 2008
Scottish Funding Council has published a report called Scottish Participation in Further and Higher Education which examines the levels of participation by the Scottish adult population at school, UK universities and Scotland's colleges between 2001-02 and 2006-07.
The comprehensive 126 page report breaks down the geographical variation in levels of participation. The figures reveal that many areas that have relatively low participation in further education have relatively high participation in higher education, and vice versa.
According to the report, the total number of individuals studying in college and universities has fallen between 2001-02 and 2006-07. However, numbers have increased slightly between 2005-06 and 2006-07.
The report found that in 2006-07, those from the most deprived areas of Scotland had about the same likelihood of being in university or college education as those from other areas. In previous years they were less likely to have been studying but that gap has steadily narrowed since 2001-02.
